The composition of a fiber optic cable is made up of a PVC (polyethylene) sheath or LSZH (low smoke halogen-free) sheath, with metal or non-metal reinforcements on both sides of the sheath and a fiber optic cable placed in the middle.

Fiber optic cables are divided into indoor fiber optic cables and outdoor fiber optic cables. Generally, the sheath of indoor fiber optic cables is white or customized according to customer requirements, while the sheath of outdoor fiber optic cables is black.

Due to the fact that fiber optic cable wiring is an important part of FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and is commonly used for wiring in buildings, high requirements are placed on the bending resistance of optical fibers. The bending resistance of G657.D fiber is the best, so G.652D fiber is usually used as the fiber in the fiber optic cable. Of course, the procurement of optical fibers is based on customer requirements.

Indoor fiber optic cables are used for indoor operations, so the safety and fire protection function of the sheath material is particularly important. Generally, LSZH, which is a low smoke halogen-free flame-retardant sheath, must be used to effectively reduce the possibility of combustion in case of accidents.

There is another structure for outdoor fiber optic cables, which is to add a metal wire suspension wire to the fiber optic cable and a sheath on the outside for outdoor traction, which can play a self supporting role in suspension.
